As the game drew to a close, he sustained a triple tear in his right knee, which left the entire team feeling devastated and affected by the news.

“Everyone in the team is devastated and affected by the injury,” said de la Fuente as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“I was able to speak to him. We were all devastated,” he added.

Joselu’s reaction

Meanwhile, Joselu, who is both a former teammate at Real Madrid and a close relative through marriage, also spoke about the emotional toll of the injury.

He mentioned that the connection they share as a family makes the situation even more painful, as it feels like a personal loss.

He is confident that Carvajal will recover from this challenge, expressing hope that his determination and professionalism will guide him through the rehabilitation process.

“Carvajal is very sad but he will surely teach us a lesson. He is my family and I feel as if it had happened to me.

“I wish him the best of recoveries because he deserves it and, I am sure that due to his personality and the professionalism he is, he will recover very well and come back stronger than ever,” he said.

Carvajal will not play again this season

Following a thorough medical examination, it was confirmed that Carvajal had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, along with the external collateral ligament and the popliteus tendon in his right leg.

This unfortunate injury is expected to sideline him for a period of eight to ten months, which is a significant setback for both his club and the national team.

The coach shared his feelings after speaking with Carvajal, expressing how the injury has shaken the team. The bond among the players is strong, and they deeply care for one another, making this incident feel personal.
