With the return of club football this weekend after the first international break of 2025, there was as a result a return of the Championship – meaning games for three Tottenham Hotspur loanees. Ashley Phillips and his Stoke City side were in action at home to Yang Min-hyeok and Queens Park Rangers, whilst Will Lankshear and West Bromwich Albion faced Norwich City away from home.
To begin, Phillips was again named in the Stoke starting XI – for a 28th time in the Championship this season. Meanwhile, Min-hyeok was named on the substitutes bench by QPR manager Marti Cifuentes.
In the 21st minute, Stoke took the lead, before doubling their advantage a minute or two behind the half time break. At the interval, Min-hyeok was introduced to the action to try and get QPR back into the game.
After 54 minutes, Stoke got their third goal to make sure of three points. However, twelve minutes before time, Min-hyeok scored his first goal in English football with a nice strike from outside the area. After making his South Korea debut earlier in the week, it really has been a great week for him individually. Shame neither game came with a victory.
That would be that, and Stoke secured a very important victory. Although it deprived Phillips of a clean sheet – Min-hyeok scoring with Stoke winning means both loanees got something out of the day.
With 90 more minutes completed here, Phillips has now played 2452 minutes in the Championship for Stoke this season, as well as 327 minutes in the domestic cups. On Saturday, he completed; eight clearances, three blocked shots, one interception, 45 touches of the ball, 31/32 completed passes, and 2/2 aerial duels won.
This win leaves Stoke in 18th place in the Championship, with 42 points from their 39 games – four points above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, QPR sit in 15th place, with 45 points from their 39 games.
Meanwhile, Lankshear was again named amongst the substitutes for West Brom’s trip to Norwich. He came on in the 85th minute, with the score still 0-0. Two minutes into stoppage time, the hosts took the lead. In the 96th minute, there was a goal mouth scramble for an equaliser, with three shots within eight yards, including one from the Spurs loanee, but they could not force the ball over the line, and they were condemned to a 1-0 defeat.
This leaves West Brom in sixth place in the Championship, with 57 points from their 39 games, though with two sides now only below them on goal difference.
Next up for West Brom is a home game against Sunderland on Saturday, the 4th of April, at 12:30 BST. Next up for Stoke is an away game against Preston on the same day at 15:00 BST, whilst QPR host Cardiff City at the same time.
