On Sunday evening, Spurs loanees Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, and their KVC Westerlo side were in Belgian Pro League action away to Beerschot, in the final game before the league splits into a Championship, qualifying, and relegation round. Heading into the game, Westerlo could have been dragged into the relegation round, but effectively just needed to avoid defeat in order to not do so.

For the game, Vuskovic was named in the starting XI, making it his 28th league start of the season. Meanwhile, Devine was named amongst the substitutes by manager Timmy Simons.

How things went on the final matchday before the split in Belgium

Despite an entertaining first half, with good chances for either side, it looked like they were heading into the break goalless. However, deep into first half stoppage time, Westerlo were given a penalty. They managed to tuck it away, and they took a 1-0 lead into the half time interval.

Just after the 70 minute mark, the hosts equalised via an own goal. For 15 minutes, it looked like that was going to mean a draw between the sides, but Westerlo managed to go ahead for a second time with four minutes of normal time remaining.

From there, they saw the game out, to hold onto the three points and make sure that they would not be in the relegation round, securing their status in the Belgian Pro League for next season.

After 63 minutes, Devine came on as a substitute. Since returning from injury, the Spurs youngster has struggled to get himself into the starting XI. Still, this appearance off the bench took his league minutes to over 1600 for the season.

As for Vuskovic, it was yet another solid performance. During the 90 minutes, he recorded; eight clearances, two blocked shots, two tackles, 74 touches, 56/60 accurate passes, 5/7 accurate long balls, 0 times dribbled past, and one shot off target.

This result means Westerlo finished ninth in the Belgian Pro League, with 37 points from their 30 games. They will compete in the qualifying round with Standard Liege, Mechelen, Charleroi, OH Leuven, and Dender. Whoever finishes the season with the most points out of those teams will get the chance to qualify for the UEFA Conference League via the qualifying rounds.

As it stands, Westerlo are just two points off the side with the most points – Standard Liege – so it very much possible that they could finish top, and have a shot at a European adventure to look forward to.
