We are not quite at the halfway point of the January transfer window, yet it feels like the window has been going on for more than a month already, such has been the hectic nature of it. Spurs have been linked to just about every player under the sun. Most prominently, however, there have been consistent links to Paris Saint Germain forward, Randal Kolo Muani.
There has been a new update. As per high profile French newspaper L'Equipe, Spurs have submitted a loan with an option to buy proposal for the attacker, with the Parisians waiting to assess all offers before making a decision - with Manchester United and Serie A side Juventus also said to have shown an interest in the player.
They also state that Juventus "lack funds" for the 26-year old, and that the Premier League "appeals to him". Furthermore, it is said that Spurs are "active", and that talks between Daniel Levy and PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelafi have taken place.
Finally from L'Equipe for this piece, they also suggested that Levy and Al-Khelafi have "very good relations". Pretty encouraging update in general. None of it absolutely decisive, but plenty of things that add up to give Spurs a reasonably strong case, you would think and hope. This saga in particular feels like it has gone on for ages.
Plenty of fans are not enthused by the potential signing of Kolo Muani, and that is understandable. This is not to say he is some world beater whom will make Spurs 10x better. It could just be quite a smart signing to give some much needed depth across the front line until the end of the season.
For example, the Frenchman has played a lot of football off the right. Some fans will say that Brennan Johnson is not of the requisite quality to start games - then also say that Dejan Kulusevski is a lot better in midfield. So, who would you want to play off the right hand side?
Some will read that and say "a new signing who is better than Kolo Muani". Fine, but whom? It's just being realistic within the boundaries of the current ownership of the club. On a loan with an option to buy, it feels very low risk, high reward - particularly if that saving of funds can help Spurs reinforce in other key areas of the pitch.
