Starlet with 2 senior appearances already lined up to follow exceptional Estevao to Chelsea

The months are ticking by, and we’re now not far away from the much anticipated arrival of Estevao Willian at Chelsea.
The sporting directors have bought a whole bunch of South Americans, with little success so far. Andrey Santos looks very promising, and we’re hoping to see him arrive this summer too. But Estevao looks a cut above – we can’t remember the last time a player had such universally approved hype from all corners.
Perhaps the success of Santos and Estevao has inspired our scouts to push for more talent from Brazil. It seems they’ve alighted on another promising prospect from the footballing hotbed – Gabriel Mec.
CaughtOffside have a report today which claims that the Blues are “intensifying their efforts” to complete a deal for the much in-demand Gremio star.
Still just 16, he would be an investment to arrive in the future, just as Estevao was. His hype hasn’t reach the same levels yet – but given he’s younger, there’s no reason he couldn’t be viewed in the same way in a couple of years.
Chelsea target Denner playing for Corinthians.
Mec only has two senior appearances for Gremio so far – but that’s two more than Denner Evangelista has, and Chelsea have already apparently agreed a deal to sign him for something like €14m.
We don’t really believe in the policy of just bringing in a horde of young talents at vast expense – for every Andrey Santos there’s a couple of Deivid Washingtons. But we also understand that some talents (like Estevao) are just so outstanding that you can’t miss out on them.
Will Mec fall into that category? It will be very interesting to see how he develops over the next few months. More senior games will give more evidence – but more competition too.
