We asked our Derby County fan pundit what he expects to happen in the January transfer window
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Derby County defender Eiran Cashin has been tipped to be the subject of transfer interest in the upcoming January transfer window.
Cashin joined the club as a six-year-old and has worked his way up through the ranks to become a key player for Paul Warne's side in recent seasons, starting all but one of their games this season and wearing the captain's armband in the fixtures against Sunderland and Millwall.
The former Republic of Ireland U21's centre-back has been linked with moves away from Derby before, with Premier League side Brighton pushing to sign him last summer, according to John Percy.
However, Cashin stayed put and has impressed yet again with the Rams, and our Derby County fan pundit believes the 22-year-old will be subject to transfer interest again come January.
We asked our Derby County fan pundit, Shaun Woodward, what he expects to see in the January transfer window.
Speaking to Football League World, Shaun said: “Two things I can see happening are Eiran Cashin being linked with another club. That seems to happen most windows, so that’s one thing we can expect to hear.
“Another thing will be us being linked with about ten of Paul Warne’s ex-players and ex-strikers.
“For me, we’re in desperate need of another centre-forward and I think most clubs will know that, so to boost their values, I think they’ll link us with those players, even if Paul Warne hasn’t gone in for them, but we do need a striker, so it’s going to be interesting.
“Those are the two things that are going to happen. We’ll be linked with some of Paul Warne’s ex-players and I think Cashin will be the talk of the town."
Given their recent promotion to the Championship and the contract extension he signed in February, the chances of Cashin leaving do feel slimmer than in recent years, but you never know.
All it takes is one club to come in with a sizable bid and the entire situation could change, and no doubt clubs will be aware of his excellent start to the Championship season.
According to Fotmob, Cashin has some of the most impressive stats in the division for players in his position, and his stats for tackles won (16), duels won (69), aerial duels won (37), interceptions (26), and recoveries (53) are all in the top 10% of Championship centre-backs.
He's made an excellent start to the season, and he's been a key figure in Derby taking people by surprise with their decent start to the season, currently finding themselves in mid-table.
Keeping Cashin at the club will be a priority for Warne in January, and the club will be pulling out all the stops to ensure he remains at Pride Park.
