Former Blue Craig Burley has praised Enzo Maresca for the way he’s made big decisions in regards to Chelsea’s squad and some of their players.

Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the summer after guiding Leicester to the Championship title last season, and revealed last month why he had no doubts about the taking job.

There were many who doubted Chelsea’s decision, but the Italian has proved the doubters wrong so far with Chelsea’s start to the season and the Blues currently sit third after an impressive start.

Burley praised Maresca for making big decisions

Maresca arrived into a difficult situation at Chelsea and after a disappointing pre-season in terms of results it appeared the Blues were set for a difficult start to the campaign.

The 44-year-old deserves huge credit for the impact he’s had in a short space of time and you can already see a clear style of play and an identity starting to form, whilst he recently admitted the team were ahead of his expectations.

It’s early days and there’s still so much improvement the team can make, which is really exciting for Chelsea fans heading into the remainder of the campaign.

Maresca has made some difficult decisions and his honesty when speaking about them is admirable, and former Chelsea player Burley has been really impressed with how he’s organised the squad.

“He’s walking into a huge club that was a mess with all these signings,” he told ESPN.

“I thought there was no way he could get it organised. But in fairness to him he’s gone like that: [Raheem] Sterling out, [Ben] Chilwell and all these players I don’t want you.

“This is who I want to work with. That’s been quite a clever move.”

The squad seems to be one of the happiest and most harmonious Chelsea have had in recent years, although it will be interesting to see what happens when Chelsea eventually get back into the Champions League and there isn’t as much rotation and opportunity for players.
