The 3 time FA Youth Cup winner helping Chelsea club hero towards promotion

When Frank Lampard took the Coventry job in November, he joked about Joao Felix coming on loan to join him from Chelsea.
He had been asked about whether his connections at Stamford Bridge would help him land some of the many young talents we’ve got on the books.
In the end, nobody did make that trip, but we’d be very surprised if that remains the case in the summer. The Championship remains the ideal environment for players to step out of youth football and toughen up in the men’s game while staying close to home, and once the Sky Blues are established at the top of the table, we can see Lampard taking on at least one of our many youth players this summer.
There is one former Blue already on the books with Frank however – Jay Dasilva. We’ve been writing about the the full back since as far back as 2017, if you’ll believe it. By 2019 (when Lampard was manager) we were predicting he would get a Premier League move before too long, and we’re still pretty confident that will happen one day.
Perhaps he will need to help Lampard’s Coventry go up rather than just be bought by a top flight team – either way, he’s always had the quality. He is one of just a handful of players who has won 3 FA Youth Cups in history as part of Chelsea’s incredible generation who won in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Still just 26, he’s already got almost 200 Championship appearances to his name. He’s also now got senior caps for Wales. There could well be more Cobham talents loaned to join him this summer, but whatever happens we’re just happy to see an academy product from the past making a great career in the game.
