One of football's greatest international rivalries is primed for centre stage tonight as Uruguay plays host to Argentina at Montevideo's Centenario for their World Cup Qualifying clash.
While many fans view the South American footballing landscape as one dominated by Brazil as well as Argentina, Uruguay was the first true powerhouse on the continent, taking home the inaugural tournament as hosts in 1930 before securing their second in a post-Second World War climate in 1950.
Since then, Argentina has come on leaps and bounds by comparison, with their latest tournament win in 2022 granting them a third start on their famous Albiceleste kit.
But this is not just about tournament wins and overall gravitas, but a rivalry that is separated by 579km border which is marked by the Uruguay River.
With Buenos Aires and Montevideo within earshot of one another, the two nations have long been rivals both on and off the pitch.
From countless star names and memorable moments at both the club and international level, tonight is another page in the oldest Clásico in the world.
