Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is not happy with the reaction of Chelsea fans inside the stadium at Stamford Bridge last night after they beat West Ham.

It was a struggle for Chelsea to beat West Ham, who were set up in a low block and just looked to counter attack Chelsea for their chances. This is how a lot of teams will set up against Chelsea because it will often work, or at least it has worked a lot this side of Christmas.

Chelsea struggled to break West Ham down and the fans were getting very frustrated, you could hear the moans and groans loud and clear even on the TV – it didn’t help that they also went 1-0 down to West Ham and went in at half time losing the game. There were some boos then too.

The fans seemingly don’t like watching the slow and laboured passing build up and not creating much at the other end, which is what happened a lot in the first half last night.

The Italian coach has responded to some Chelsea fan reaction and he has asked them for more patience to and trust him and the players.

“We love our fans”, Maresca said. “We just ask for a little more patience from them when we keep the ball and there are teams that sit back and we struggle to find space. They have to trust us.”

To be honest I have always been concerned as to whether the stadium fans will buy into Maresca’s style of play, and I still have those concerns now. Whether that is right or wrong, it could be a problem. Because the players and the manager need the fans fully behind them.
