I’ve been enjoying the current fine weather and as per usual, out and about in Tynemouth and Whitley Bay.
We are now at the real business end of the campaign and I sense a few of my Newcastle United mates are a little nervous as the race for a Champions League place looks set to go to the wire.
I on the other hand am very confident that United will prevail.
I decided that I would just take every game as it came after we had beaten West Ham at the London Stadium back in early March.
We haven’t done too badly since we played the Hammers, even picking up the Carabao Cup in our very next game, then Newcastle United winning five of these last six Premier League games.
It’s Brighton and Hove Albion next at the Amex Stadium and this got me thinking back to a great result we achieved down there under Rafa Benitez.
It was on my birthday (28th Feb) in 2017, when the Magpies and the Seagulls were both flying high in the Championship.
Brighton 1-0 up with ten minutes of normal time left, then Newcastle United pulled off a late smash and grab with goals from Mo Diame and Ayoze Perez.
I believe this gave us a bit of a psychological advantage and we went on to eventually pip Brighton to the Championship title.
Brighton have defeated United twice at St James’ Park already this season and we are long overdue a victory against them in East Sussex.
They have established themselves as a top half Premier League side over the last few seasons but have tended to blow both hot and cold recently.
I’m optimistic that Eddie and the Hotrods will be able to ‘do anything they wanna do’ at the Amex this weekend.
Nothing is ever easy, but with composure and the correct attitude, this game is there for the taking from a Newcastle United perspective.
It’s all about how we approach it and the situation we now find ourselves in. Another win on our travels will propel us back into third place with three left to play.
I believe that Flash will be back in the starting eleven and that things will be tweaked to allow Harvey Barnes to also continue his rich vein of form.
Our Rolls Royce Alexander Isak will also be aware that he can become the first United player since Alan Shearer in 1999/2000 to score 30 goals in a single campaign (he’s currently on 26).
A special personal shout out is required here for my youngest daughter Joeli, who has recently completed her five year Masters Degree in Comparative Literature at Glasgow University.
She has made her Ma and Da, sisters, nephews and nieces very proud, not to forget Uncle Mick and Great Uncle Bill.
Her graduation ceremony is at the end of June and there is a party of family and friends heading up from North Shields.
I’m also looking forward to having a few drinks with some of the Weegie acquaintances I have had the pleasure of meeting during my visits to their city, whilst Joeli was doing her studies.
