Liverpool fans are quite rightly excited about the prospect of seeing Florian Wirtz line up at Anfield next season. It was reported last week that the Reds were prepared to strike for the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker, who could be set to leave this summer.
A double-winner with B04 in 2023/24, Wirtz maintained his fine form this season for Xabi Alonso’s side - scoring 12 Bundesliga goals and adding 10 assists.
With Leverkusen fading from the title picture however it has been suggested that the German international is ready to move. Despite a contract which extends only until 2027, Leverkusen have set an asking price of €150m for the 22-year-old.
Liverpool would no doubt have to shift out several players in order to generate enough budget to land Wirtz and make space for him on the wage bill.
Their chief competitors for Wirtz in the upcoming transfer window would appear to be Bayern Munich.
Despite the transfer noise around Wirtz and Liverpool, it’s been reported that Vincent Kompany’s side are quietly confident of landing Wirtz if he chooses to leave the BayArena.
And one key reason for their confidence has been put forward by TBR Football in a report which claims that playing alongside Jamal Musiala is a big motivating factor for Wirtz.
The two excel together in the Germany attack and they would be a devastating partnership at the Allianz Arena.

“A key reason why Bayern believe they have the upper hand over Liverpool in the race to sign Wirtz is due to his relationship with Jamal Musiala,” a report reads.
“As a result, Wirtz could be set to join Bayern — as the prospect of playing alongside the former Chelsea wonderkid, who signed a contract with the Bavarians until 2030 appeals to the Leverkusen technician.”
Wirtz is currently on holiday following the conclusion of the Bundesliga season - and is expected to make his mind up over his future in the next 10 days or so.
Liverpool are no doubt ready to strike if the player decides to quit Leverkusen - and they will need to put together an attractive package to keep Wirtz out of Bayern’s clutches.
