Bayern Munich failed to extend their lead at the top of the points table in the Bundesliga on Saturday after Bayer Leverkusen had dropped two points against Union Berlin. Die Roten conceded the equalizer against Borussia Dortmund in the final 15 minutes of the game and had to settle for a point in Der Klassiker.

The hosts went behind early in the second half, but a stirring response to the setback meant Bayern were 2-1 up going into the final 15 minutes of the game. Bayern had the game under control, but a string of mistakes during a set-piece allowed Dortmund to equalize in the 75th minute.

Despite the disappointing result, Vincent Kompany was pleased with the way his players performed on Saturday. Let’s look at three players who shone for Bayern in Der Klassiker on Saturday.

Serge Gnabry

Vincent Kompany made changes in the attack after the hour mark and brought on Serge Gnabry to replace Leroy Sane. The former Arsenal winger has struggled for consistency this season and looks destined to leave Bavaria in the summer. However, he repaid Kompany’s faith on Saturday with a stellar cameo.

Gnabry was a menace for Bayern on the left flank. He played a big role in creating the first goal for Raphael Guerreiro. The German winger also showed a great bit of footwork in the final third before giving Bayern the lead in the 69th minute. Gnabry scored one and created one chance while maintaining a pass success rate of 92% during his stay on the pitch. Kompany will hope Gnabry builds on this performance and delivers a big performance against Inter Milan on Wednesday.
