The 2024-25 Europa League Final is an all-English affair with Tottenham Hotspur taking on Manchester United at San Mames Stadium on Wednesday 21st May at 8pm (UK time). Both sides have struggled domestically, with this their route to the Champions League. This game will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.
Ange Postecoglou has won four of his five games against Man Utd as Tottenham manager, drawing the other. Three of those victories have come this season.
Dominic Solanke has scored in each of his past four games against Man Utd across all competitions, with three goals for Tottenham and two while at Bournemouth.
Both sides will finish the season in the bottom half of the Premier League. But one will also lift a trophy and gain passage to the Champions League. Tottenham have been decent in the Europa League this season, without being spectacular. They finished fourth in the group stage, winning five of their eight games to secure direct passage into the last 16. There, Tottenham had to come from behind on aggregate to beat AZ Alkmaar. Eintracht Frankfurt then fell in the quarter-finals, before Tottenham’s comfortable 5-1 aggregate victory over Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals.
Man Utd are still unbeaten in the Europa League this season, the seventh team to reach the final without losing. Three of the six preceding teams have won the Europa League that season, which means three have lost the final. So Man Utd can’t really take anything from that. But they can take hope from their own performances this season. The Red Devils also won five of their eight group games to finish third, setting up a last 16 tie with Real Sociedad. Man Utd won that tie 5-2 but then had to come from the depths to nick a 7-6 aggregate victory over Lyon in a thrilling quarter-final. They were much more confident in their 7-1 semi-final win over Athletic Bilbao.
Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison are expected to miss the end of the season, so will sit on the sidelines for this final. Radu Dragusin will be out for most of 2025.
Matthijs de Ligt isn’t expected to be back in time for this game, though he could return for the final weekend of the Premier League. Joshua Zirkzee is out for the season, while Lisandro Martinez is expected to miss the rest of the year.
This will be the fourth meeting between these two sides this season, with Tottenham winning all three so far. In fact, Tottenham are unbeaten in their past six games against Man Utd, with Postecoglou yet to taste defeat in this fixture.
