PSG had reportedly been keeping tabs on Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, who’s also attracting strong interest from Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham. However, it appears there’s now one favorite to scoop up the Frenchman.
Cherki, 21, is coming off a breakout season, racking up 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances. His impressive form has made him one of the most sought-after young players in Europe.
Recently, Graeme Bailey of TBR Football reported that United are among several Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on him. Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Newcastle are also believed to be in the mix.
Interest in Cherki isn’t limited to England, either. Bayern Munich and PSG were both reportedly back in the race thanks to his strong run of form. But according to Foot Mercato, PSG are no longer pursuing the deal—talks aren’t happening, and none are expected anytime soon.

On Friday, Footmercato’s Santi Aouna reported that Cherki has agreed to join Manchester City, with no issues regarding personal terms. Pep Guardiola has spoken directly with Cherki about the club’s project, which has helped position City as the frontrunners in the ongoing negotiations. Discussions are still ongoing between the parties, and the potential deal could be worth approximately €40 million.
Manchester City are looking to move quickly on deals for both Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, aiming to secure their arrivals ahead of the Club World Cup. The club also wants to stay ahead of other top European teams showing interest in the pair.
TEAMtalk previously reported that after missing out on Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, Manchester City have shifted their focus to Cherki. Moreover, they edged out clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, who were reportedly one of the frontrunners to land the player.
