Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly competing to secure the services of Malaga’s talented 18-year-old forward, Antonio Cordero.
According to a report by Jose Felix Diaz in MARCA, the youngster’s future has become a hot topic, as his contract with Malaga is set to expire in June 2025.
It must be noted that Barcelona had shown interest in signing Cordero during the recent summer transfer window. However, Malaga refused to entertain any proposals at that time.
As the months have passed, it has become evident that the player himself has yet to agree to the renewal offers presented by his club.
This situation has opened the door for a potential January move, which could benefit Malaga financially before the risk of losing him on a free transfer arises when his contract expires next summer.
Real Madrid also explored the possibility of bringing Cordero on board for their Castilla team. However, Malaga’s unwillingness to assign a price to the player’s departure led Madrid to put their interest on hold.

An interesting factor in this transfer saga is Cordero’s representation. He is managed by Pini Zahavi, an agent well-connected to Barcelona. Zahavi represents current Barcelona players and maintains a strong professional relationship with Joan Laporta, the club’s president.
This connection could give Barcelona an edge in the race to sign the forward. Nevertheless, the ultimate decision rests with Cordero himself—whether he chooses to join one of the Spanish giants or renew his stay with Malaga.
The main reason why the teams want him is because both Barcelona and Real Madrid’s reserve teams are struggling this season, currently sitting in relegation zones in their respective leagues.
However, given Cordero’s growth and performances in professional football, he might outgrow the level of reserve team football altogether, potentially positioning himself for a more prominent role in the future.
As the January window approaches, the competition for Cordero’s signature is likely to intensify, with his talent and potential making him an appealing prospect for both clubs.
