Oliver Glasner revealed Trevoh Chalobah didn’t feature for Crystal Palace in their FA Cup tie against Stockport as a result of “contractual issues.”

Chalobah is currently on a season long loan at Selhurst Park after being forced out of Stamford Bridge in the summer, with the Blues making it clear he was surplus to requirements.

But with injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile it appears Chelsea could now enter the market for a new centre back.

Chalobah left out of FA Cup tie for contractual reasons

The Blues have a number of options available to them and it’s been reported they are exploring the possibility of recalling Chalobah.

It would be quite some turnaround considering the club forced Chalobah to train on his own and didn’t take him on the pre-season tour, and it remains to be seen if he would even be open to a return given how he’s been treated.

Since the initial news was reported there’s not been much of an update on whether Chelsea have progressed in their thoughts on recalling the 25-year-old.

However, Glasner provided an interesting update on the situation after Palace advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

“Trevoh Chalobah didn’t play today for contractual issues,” he said as cited by Fabrizio Romano on X.com.

“I know he wants and we want him to stay but we still have 19 days so anything can happen.”

“I want Chalobah to stay and I know Marc Guehi wants to stay.”

People will of course speculate, but it will be interesting to know whether Chelsea had anything to do with Chalobah not being able to play.

The Blues are also after Marc Guehi, although a deal for the Palace captain is thought to be difficult to pull of this month, but Chelsea could potentially use Chalobah as part of any deal.

It feels like games are being played in this situation and one way or another Chelsea need to make a decision on what’s happening with Chalobah and decide if they want to seriously try and do a deal for Guehi.
