That record currently belongs to the Black Cats, with 15,387 in attendance in the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light in October as the Magpies ran out 2-1 winners thanks to two goals from winger Beth Lumsden.

Now Newcastle are looking to better that and set a new league high - as well as breaking their own record of 28,565 for a women's game - by selling out St. James'.

Becky Langley's side have won back-to-back promotions and are now pushing for the Women's Super League as they continue to inspire male and female supporters alike.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be playing at St. James' Park in the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland," said head coach Langley. "We want it to be a really competitive game with a fantastic atmosphere because this local rivalry deserves that attention and excitement from the fans.

"We hope the Geordies will come and be our 12th player, like they were in the fixture at the Stadium of Light. We want that same feeling come the final whistle and to have the North East bragging rights again.

"It's not just another game - it's about local pride and we want to pack the stadium out and break that Championship record crowd.

"It's so inspiring for us having the crowd there and we're so proud to have so many fans who come and support the men's and women’s teams. It gives us that extra push and determination to do them proud."
