Many fans of Bilbao-based Athletic Club are currently participating in a protest due to dissatisfaction towards the board members of their club.
The protest is happening as a result of fines which had been issued to many Athletic Club fans in the most vocal part of their stadium for certain chants and unruly behaviour.
As a result, San Mamés has been far quieter than usual in recent weeks, leading the club’s long-standing goalkeeper to speak out.
As per Tiempo de Juego, Unai Simón said “I ask those who do not want to cheer to go home.”
Unai Simón is clearly disgruntled at the protests and feels that the fines received by sections of the club support are justified.
It is unusual to see a club’s player to speak out in this fashion, and this situation clearly shows the passion that Unai Simón feels for this club and the situation as a whole.
The strike seems to not be coming to an end any time soon, and it will be worth keeping an eye on the situation in Bilbao to see how things progress.
