Unique Angle from Motherwell 1-3 Celtic – Jota fairytale return, Maeda is Magnificent

A deserved 3-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park yesterday afternoon maintained our 10 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings…

The magnificent Daizen Maeda opened the scoring in the first minute to give us the perfect start, and the superb Adam Idah added a second to put us back in front minutes after Motherwell had levelled. Both players were absolutely terrific, and as well as finding the net, their all round play was exceptional.

The biggest highlight of the day for Celtic supporters at the game or watching on television was the appearance of Jota from the bench when he replaced Nicolas Kuhn just after the hour mark. His arrival was greeted with rapturous applause, and he looked as if he’d never been away, slotting perfectly back into the side.

He looked very much the same Jota we idolised during his previous two year spell. The touch, the vision, and the ability to take players on was still very much evident. Have a read at Sandman’s Definitive Ratings this morning for more on Jota’s return.

Two brilliant Daizen Maeda assists

Then right at the end, he slotted home a brilliant Daizen Maeda cross to score our third and put the final result beyond doubt. Jota produced his signature celebration complete with his fist clenched in the air in front of the joyful Celtic supporters seated behind the goals.

Jota’s fairytale second Celtic debut

It proved to be a fairytale second Celtic debut for our Superstar from Portugal who is going to spend the best years of his career wearing the hoops. What a prospect that is!

Daizen Maeda showed that he can be effective on the wing as a provider and can also play through the middle as a striker.

While the club are still looking at replacing Kyogo, who didn’t have the fairytale start at Rennes yesterday, a Celtic front three from the four of Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah, Nicolas Kuhn and Jota is tasty to say the least.

Whether we have a fifth name to add to that by 11pm tonight remains unknown. Any new arrival is going have to be top class to force his way into the Celtic front three.
