Patrick Vieira’s time at Genoa appears to be drawing to a close, with growing indications that the Frenchman will part ways with the club at the end of the season.

While Vieira has remained tight-lipped on his future, also stating in a recent press conference that his focus remains solely on the final stretch of the campaign, sources close to the club suggest his departure is increasingly likely.

Vieira expected to depart as Genoa line up replacement with Serie A pedigree

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Genoa’s final two matches of the season, against Atalanta at the Ferraris and Bologna at the Dall’Ara, could be Vieira’s last in charge of the Grifone.

Hired with the goal of steering Genoa to a comfortable safety, Vieira has enjoyed a convincing spell at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, despite highs and lows from his side in recent weeks, and may now be headed for the exit after just one season.

Genoa’s sporting director Marco Ottolini is already evaluating potential successors, with Paulo Sousa emerging as a leading candidate.

The Portuguese coach, currently at the helm of Shabab Al-Ahli in the UAE, is no stranger to Italian football, having previously managed Fiorentina and then Salernitana in a brief stint last year. His name is reportedly high on Ottolini’s shortlist as Genoa prepare for another reset on the bench.
