Viktor Gyokeres may be a Manchester United target but he won’t be leaving Sporting CP midway through the season like Ruben Amorim.

The in-form Sporting striker has been linked with a reunion with new United head coach Amorim at Old Trafford.

Gyokeres is attracting interest across Europe after scoring 23 goals in 16 games this season. That form is set to make him one of the most sought-after players in Europe next year.

After thriving under Amorim, the Swede has been heavily linked with a switch from Sporting to United. He was asked about such a move while away on international duty.

The Swede insists he has not spoken to Amorim about a potential move to United and says he wants to finish the season at Sporting, who are unbeaten at the top of the Primeira Liga.

Asked about links with a reunion with Amorim at United, Gyokeres said, as per The Standard: “He probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see. No, he hasn’t [asked me to join him].

“It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.”

The reporter decided to push Gyokeres a little further.

“I want to finish this season at Sporting,” he added. “I love it here.

“We will see [about a new club] when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial, and there will be also other factors.”

Gyokeres will have an array of offers in the summer, but United have that extra pull factor of having a coach he thrived under after moving to Sporting from Coventry City.

The Reds were handed a boost as Barcelona ruled themselves out of the running for Gyokeres’ signature.

He was also asked about Amorim’s departure from Sporting.

“It’s very sad that he’s leaving, but of course we understand his decision.

“He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much. Now we look forward to working with the new coach.”
