Although there are some positive signs for West Ham under Graham Potter, the growing pains are obviously not going away. The Hammers turned in another poor performance on Tuesday night in the Premier League, losing yet another winnable game in a 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

There are clearly multiple candidates for the worst West Ham player from this result whereas there are a lot fewer positive performances to take away from this display. West Ham and Potter have a lot of work cut out for them this offseason.

Out of all the dismal displays, the worst of them has to be striker Evan Ferguson. Acquired on loan from Brighton, Ferguson has dealt with fitness issues preventing him from getting into a rhythm, and while that must be acknowledged in order to give a fair analysis, it's also more than fair to say that Ferguson should be playing much better than this under any circumstance.

Evan Ferguson is not the solution for West Ham

Ferguson was hooked off at the half-time mark after making no discernably positive impact on the game for West Ham. In truth, he was abhorrent, and there was a major upgrade in performance when veteran Niclas Fullkrug, who could easily use the injury excuse himself, came into the game in the second half.

Lethargic, listless, and severely lacking in all-around quality, Ferguson is a young player at an early crossroads in his career, and he may need a move abroad or to a lower level instead of a six-month loan spell with a West Ham side in the midst of its own identity crisis. Ferguson was a nice flash in the pan for Brighton, but he has to show more technical quality and athletic ability to crack it at this level. He was miles off it against Wolves.

On the other hand, Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the only real standout performer for West Ham in this defeat. He was massive defensively and did a lot of strong work to hustle and win possession for the Hammers, giving them a semblance of a chance.

It's no coincidence that Wan-Bissaka and former Wolves center back Max Kilman, both signed this past summer, were the two best players on the pitch for West Ham because they have been that all season long. In this one, Wan-Bissaka took center stage with nine combined tackles and interceptions, further asserting himself as the best defensive right back in the Premier League.

West Ham can feel confident knowing that Wan-Bissaka is a top Premier League right back in his prime whom they can help build the squad around. He's one of the few defensive and midfield players worth backing fully, and it's games like this when a lot is going wrong that a player like AWB can distinguish himself as being cut from a different cloth.
