Although there is plenty of competition, one of the higher rated youngsters at Spurs is Will Lankshear. The teenager was the top scorer in the PL2 last season, and was rewarded with a first team spot in the Spurs squad – whilst older strikers Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett were sent on loan.
In November, Lankshear was given a start away to Galatasaray in the Europa League. It proved to be a mixed night for him, scoring in the first half but later getting sent off for a second yellow card after half time.
After that game, the striker found game time extremely hard to come by. When he was an unused sub in an FA Cup tie away to Tamworth, it was clear that the next step for his development was to be sent on loan. When Scarlett was recalled from his loan, it became obvious that Lankshear was going to be sent out on loan.
That he did, as he joined Championship play off hopefuls West Bromwich Albion on loan at the end of the winter transfer window. Unfortunately, things have not gone to plan for the Spurs youngster so far.
Unfortunately for Lankshear, shortly after he was brought in – West Brom then also signed Adam Armstrong on loan from Southampton, who had enjoyed a very successful period of his career under Baggies manager Tony Mowbray during their time together at Blackburn Rovers. He did not sign him to sit on the bench.
So far, the 19-year old has started just one game for West Brom, coming off the bench a further six times, and totalling 166 minutes of action. He has had just four shots – of any note – during this time on the pitch.
This will not define him. Harry Kane, quite famously had some difficult loans before he made it in the Spurs first team. Loans, particularly first time loans, will not define you as a player. He will have learned a lot in the last couple of months.
Anyway, in a recent video published on West Brom’s social media channels, Lankshear was asked who the best player he had played with is, with the striker going for the skipper – Heung-Min Son – as his answer to the question.
The two both started together in the aforementioned defeat to Galatasaray, and Lankshear’s most recent appearance for the club was replacing Son during the 3-2 win over Hoffenheim in January, also in the Europa League.
