Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has this week moved to reveal his appreciation for the efforts of a fellow member of Hansi Flick’s squad to help him settle into life at the club.

Szczęsny, for his part, has of course spent the last couple of months establishing himself as the new no.1 in Barcelona’s squad.

Brought in following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the Pole has done a stellar job of displacing Iñaki Peña as Hansi Flick’s first-choice option between the posts.

So impressive has Szczęsny looked, in fact, that the widespread expectation is that he will soon be rewarded by way of a one-year contract extension.

Whilst the former Arsenal and Juventus man has enjoyed a return to prominence on the world stage, however, left in his wake has been the aforementioned Iñaki Peña.

After being afforded an extended run of outings as a starter in Barcelona late last year, the Spaniard is now on the outside looking in, without a single appearance to his name since back in January.

And yet, Peña is one of those who deserves most credit for aiding Szczęsny’s settling in process in Catalunya.

Speaking to the media ahead of Barca’s Champions League meeting with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, the club’s current no.1 confirmed:

“Iñaki Peña helped me a lot when I joined Barcelona.”
