FC Barcelona continue to work towards uniting a competitive team to take on the challenges of this season. While many things may have changed around the club, their core objective remains the same. After all, Barcelona is expected to compete against the best every single season.

Unfortunately, injuries have greatly impacted their progression so far this season. However, following the injury to German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Barcelona did not waste any time in making sure that they brought in a quality replacement for him.

In came 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who ended up joining Barcelona recently despite having announced his retirement this year. For him, however, it seems to have been a great challenge to join and one that he simply could not say no to.

As revealed in his recent interview with SPORT, the Polish goalkeeper believes that it takes a certain kind of ‘courage’ to be able to say yes to Barcelona and joining them requires players to be ‘brave enough’:

“If you say ‘no’ to Barça, it means you don’t have the guts or the bravery for a challenge like this. You don’t have the courage for it. I think I still find that passion within me, and I’m at a level where I can help, and that’s why I accepted.”

However, while the former Juventus goalkeeper was happy in retirement, he believes that the motivation and sense of challenge that was put in front of him was something that he simply could not refuse:

“I was happy with my retirement, but being happy is not enough in life. That’s good and comfortable, but when you feel the challenge, when you feel you want to push yourself to do something extraordinary, something that people will remember, that’s when the motivation wins.”

Now, as he continues to work on his fitness and prepare himself for more intense workouts, Barcelona are giving him all the time he needs. Soon, however, it is expected that Szczesny will be able to give much more to the team once he can make his official return to the pitch.
