Zaccagni reveals Italy goal and message from Del Piero | OneFootball

Lazio star Mattia Zaccagni says his target is ‘always’ to be part of Italy’s national team and reveals he ‘often speaks’ with his idol and Azzurri legend Alessandro Del Piero.

Zaccagni is having a great season at Lazio, with nine goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

“We are on a very positive path, and it takes a lot of little things, many small details, to achieve that, starting with the work of the club, the work of the technical staff, and the work of the medical staff. So we’re all doing a great job, and we are very happy with this,” the Italy international told TLN TV.

“The goal is always to take the field and have fun because it means you are doing the right things if you enjoy. We always try to give 110% on the field, which is what the coach asks of us. He says everything becomes easier if we have that humility and eagerness to win games. We do not set limits. We know we can be a strong team that can achieve great goals, but our goal is always the game that comes next.”

Lazio appointed Marco Baroni last summer, replacing Igor Tudor.

“I am very free in the field. Baroni gives me so much freedom to stay wide and come inside. I really like this,” said Zaccagni. “Then Guendouzi and Rovella are both having a fantastic season.

“When I score goals, especially at the Stadio Olimpico and on the side of the Curva Nord,” the Italian winger continued.

“I instinctively feel like going under the Curva and under the fans. It is a special feeling that is difficult to find every day. Receiving this warmth and affection from our fans is nice.

“The archer celebration was born when I arrived at Lazio. I like it, so I carry it on. I am having a beautiful season, but my goal is always improving myself. My goal is to improve my stats and performance.”

Zaccagni scored a vital goal for Italy at the Euros last summer but has played just four minutes with the Azzurri since.

“Being part of the national team is always fantastic. My goal is always to be in the group, obviously respecting the coach’s choices, but I work every day for this,” he said.

“From when I was little, Alessandro Del Piero has been my idol. I studied his shots, goals, and performances. He messaged me after the game against Monza. We have spoken often, also after the goal I scored in EURO 2024, so we have a good relationship.”
