3 EFL clubs who should pounce on Notts County contract rebel David McGoldrick

David McGoldrick and Notts County have been unable to agree terms, so here are three other clubs who could step in for the veteran striker.
A statement from Notts County has confirmed that they have been unable to agree terms with veteran striker David McGoldrick, meaning that he is to leave the club.
This brings to an end McGoldrick's third spell with the Magpies, for whom he began his career 22 years ago and with whom he also had a spell on loan from Southampton twenty years ago.
McGoldrick is 37 years of age, but he scored 17 goals in 36 matches for Notts County last season and 29 over the last two seasons, so it's clear that he still has much to offer.
A statement from Notts County has confirmed that they have been unable to reach agreement with McGoldrick to extend his contract, saying, "Unfortunately we have been unable to reach an agreement on this occasion, but everyone at Meadow Lane thanks David wholeheartedly for his charismatic performances, wonderful goals, leadership and dedication."
But as the joint-third highest scorer in League Two last season, it's unlikely he'll be without offers, so here are three clubs who may want to make a move.
The Saddlers only scored one goal in their last three matches of their 2024/25 League Two season, and ended up missing out on automatic promotion as a result, despite having led the table by twelve points at one point. In the play-off final, they went a goal down in first half-stoppage time but couldn't find a way back at all in the second half and ended up losing 1-0. Some extra firepower would be most welcome if they're to get over the line next time around and McGoldrick could be an ideal solution.
The Dons are still celebrating promotion back to League One after beating Walsall, but their goalscoring record was a bit of a concern, with them scoring just 56 in the League. Only one other club in the top half of the table scored fewer goals than them and that was Colchester United, who finished 11th.
At 37 years old, McGoldrick isn't a long-term solution, but he's a capable and experienced striker and would give Wimbledon a little muscle up front. They may need it if they're to survive in League One next season.
Footballers last longer these days, and David McGoldrick's experience gave him an edge that defenders often couldn't live with, for Notts County next season. For clubs in the lower divisions who can reach agreement with him, he could do a valuable job.
MK Dons had a poor 2024/25 season, finishing in 19th place in League Two, but there are strong connections to McGoldrick already at this particular club, from his time at Derby County.
Paul Warne is the manager, and he was with McGoldrick there during the 2022/23 season, while former teammate Nathaniel Mendez-Laing recently dropped two divisions from Derby to be reunited with Warne. McGoldrick scored 25 goals under Warne and enjoyed strong chemistry with winger Mendez-Laing, too, meaning this move would make plenty of sense.
Another familiar face would be Dan Crowley, who was at Notts County with McGoldrick until January before leaving for Milton Keynes for a fee reported to be in the region of £700,000.
