3 Tottenham players who need a big game the most vs. Liverpool

As an incredibly disappointing 2024/25 Premier League season comes to a close for Tottenham Hotspur, the pressure is on the players to end the campaign on a high note. Not only could Spurs qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, but the individual players themselves have momentum and even their careers on the line.
This time of the calendar year is where we find out which players are worth building a squad around, and that's true even for a team like Tottenham that is buried in the bottom half of the table. With a match against league leaders Liverpool, who already have the title sewn up, on Sunday, here are three Tottenham players who need to shine the most.
Right now, I have Richarlison ahead of Dominic Solanke on my striker depth chart after he scored a fourth goal in his last five Premier League appearances with a header on Monday night against Nottingham Forest to keep a match against a top-four side at least somewhat respectable.
Richarlison has more to offer as a goal-scorer than Solanke, and after what he did at Everton, he has a better past record of success than the former Liverpool and Chelsea prospect. At the same time, Solanke has been the main striker throughout the season, and Richarlison has mostly been injured these last two seasons.
So even if Richarlison has the ball in his proverbial court to maintain the starting striker job going into next season, Tottenham are still going to look for a younger No. 9 this summer - and Richarlison could still lose his current standing to Solanke if he doesn't convince. A match against old nemesis Liverpool could be a great place for the Brazilian international to affirm his status as "the guy" up top.
Archie Gray is obviously at no risk of leaving Tottenham or seeing his long-term stock at the club reduced, but I think it's fair to say that we'd like to see signs of progression from the young talent in his first season at Tottenham.
Spurs spent around 30 million pounds to sign the teenage sensation from Leeds this past summer, and while Gray has shown signs of future stardom, he's looked overmatched in quite a few Premier League matches this season.
It would be great to put him in a sink-or-swim situation against Ryan Gravenberch and a star-studded Liverpool midfield with several international caliber players. That's the level Gray needs to be at, and instead of throwing him in as a utility center back or an afterthought in mdifield, Ange Postecoglou needs to challenge his 19-year-old gem and show him that this is the level he is expected to - and will eventually - step up to.
Tottenham have a handful of young forwards just waiting to become top players in the Premier League, and summer signing Wilson Odobert was another high-priced and promising investment made by the club with an eye to the future. That future may not be under Ange Postecoglou, but Odobert should still be a part of it.
Odobert started in Spurs loss to Forest, and it was just his fourth start of 2025 and his sixth of the 2024/25 season as a whole. It was also his best start yet in the new year, as Odobert won a couple of dribbles, created a chance, and took a shot while winning a tackle and an interception as the right winger across from Mathys Tel.
If signed permanently, Tel and Odobert could be quite a promising duo of French wingers. Odobert has the talent to become a starting-caliber winger for Tottenham in a few years, and the 20-year-old has been unfortunate with injury this season. While Odobert shouldn't be expected to shine against Liverpool, a great performance who do wonders for his confidence and in setting him up as a bigger part of the team going into 2025/26.
