A first since 2023: Milan avoid fouls in first half against Bologna

AC Milan turned the game against Bologna around and clinched all three points last night. In the first half, as highlighted today, the Rossoneri achieved something for the first time since 2023.
Bologna may have won the possession stat, 53-47, but Milan certainly kept their composure in the first half of the game. The midfield battle, which involved the Rossoneri loanee Tommaso Pobega, was won by the home side without committing a single foul.
Indeed, as highlighted by Milan and on WhoScored, not a single foul was committed in the first half and that is certainly commendable. Sure, the game didn’t exactly have a high tempo (which tends to attract fouls), but Bologna committed six fouls in the first half.
It’s the first time that the Rossoneri have achieved this since the game against Cagliari in September, 2023, which says a lot about how uncommon it is. One could make the argument that they didn’t show enough grit in the first 45 minutes, but it wouldn’t be entirely true as a couple of good chances were created.
It’s unlikely that Milan will be able to repeat this in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday, given just how much will be at stake for both sides then.
