Earlier this week Phil Foden revealed that he was hoping to rest at the end of this season. Foden revealed that he was hoping to be left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for their upcoming matches against Andorra and Senegal. Tuchel announced his England squad for those two fixtures today. Foden got his wish and he wasn’t included in the England squad for those matches. Pep Guardiola has also spoken on the situation surrounding Phil Foden. The Manchester City manager revealed that the club will do all it can to help Foden feel good.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s final Premier League fixture against Fulham, Pep Guardiola told the media that Manchester City will do all they can to help Foden. When asked about Foden and his need to rest this summer, Guardiola explained: ““We’re family for him, a baby boy in the academy to become a star with us. We want to help him. He needs rest and it’ll happen now after Sunday. Step by step he’ll be back. We want to help him, that’s what we want. I don’t care about performance on the pitch. I want him to feel good and then the rest will come.”
Phil Foden recently revealed the ‘mental battle’ he has faced this season. The England international further revealed that he has been battling an ankle injury during this season’s closing stages. He has looked like he is in desperate need of a period of rest. He will now get the rest he needs this summer.
Common sense seems to have prevailed with Thomas Tuchel leaving Foden out of his England squad. There is always a question mark that surrounds the selection of players for their countries. But Phil Foden’s wish has been granted and he will get an opportunity to step away from the game after Manchester City’s final game of the 24/25 season against Fulham. That is exactly what Foden needs.
Manchester City will do all they can to help Phil Foden get over his various ailments. Pep Guardiola was strong with that statement today. That process starts with a period of rest for the England international. Some time away from the game should do Foden the world of good as he bids to put a disappointing 24/25 season behind him.
