One area Manchester City will look to strengthen this summer is their midfield. This season has seen City’s engine room struggle to play at the level expected of a Pep Guardiola side. A key factor in to this decline has been the loss of Rodri to an ACL injury in September.  City’s midfield general is currently working his way back to full fitness. But in a bid to strengthen their midfield, you do feel that Manchester City should sign cover for Rodri this summer.

One player who could have potentially been a player to fill that particular role in Pep Guardiola’s squad is Real Betis midfielder Sergi Altimira. The young Spanish midfielder has had an impressive season for Real Betis. He typically plays in the heart of the Betis midfield. His ability to win duels does stand out in his play. That’s an attribute that Manchester City do need in midfield. Altimira is also good in possession and has all of the hallmarks of a typical Spanish midfielder with his passing and technical ability.  At 23 years of age he is also in the age bracket that Manchester City typically target with their signings. On paper at least Sergi Altimira could have been a player who could step into a crucial role in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Sergi Altimira appears set to remain at Real Betis for the foreseeable future.

But a new report indicates that Manchester City may have to look elsewhere to find a player who could cover for Rodri. Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Sergi Altimira is set to sign a contract extension with Real Betis. Furthermore, Romano reports that Sergi Altimira is a player that Manchester City have monitored for months. Romano’s report can be seen below.
