On a Reddit post, Southampton fans were asked to name their controversial opinions. They ranged from Aaron Ramsdale's worth to Claude Puel's nostalgia tax.
Hot takes. We all have them and if we're being real, we all love discussing them.
Football is one of those sports where when two people agree on something, it's a complete and utter rarity. The reason why this game is so marvellous is for exactly that reason: it can be perceived in many different ways.
However, there are some opinions which are simply more controversial than others. So, let's take a look at some of the most heated hot takes from Southampton fans.
In a brilliant post on the Saints FC Reddit page, a user asked members to drop their hottest takes and most controversial opinions relating to Southampton. It is safe to say that the replies did not disappoint.
The most popular comment was a Southampton fan claiming that we've been the level of a Championship team for "many many years" - The only reason we've spent just one season in the dungeons of the Championship in recent history is due to having good managers who can keep the club afloat.
In their own words, the user said: "We've been championship for many many years, just had a good enough manager to keep us up. It'll take a long time to change our squad to compete, if at all. It's so competitive now you need something truly magic."
Then, another standout was a user claiming that Claude Puel was overrated by Southampton fans, purely for making it to the cup final. Claiming, "I struggle to believe how many Saints fans have revised Claude Puel to be a good manager. Getting to a cup final can't just erase every negative he ever showed."
Naturally, the Puel claim didn't go down too well. Fans were quick to remind the user that actually, finishing in the top eight of the Premier League was pretty good work from Puel. Hey, they did say it was controversial for a reason!
However, my favourite controversial take is one involving Aaron Ramsdale. The reason it's my favourite is not because I agree with it - In fact, the opposite couldn't be truer. I just admire how outlandish the claim is and how the user owns it with pride.
