In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Adrien Rabiot (30) has opened up on his relationship with the new head coach of AC Milan, Massimiliano Allegri.
Rabiot, who worked for three of his five seasons at Juventus under Allegri, explains that he still keeps in regular contact with his former manager, “I actually speak to Allegri often. Giovanni Rossi, Roberto De Zerbi’s advisor, also works with him, and when he calls him, he tells me: ‘Come and I’ll put you through to your dad.’”
Rabiot goes on to say, “I can talk to Allegri about everything and not just football. I really appreciate him as a person. He has a winning mentality. And it’s clear, if he calls me, I’ll always be available to talk to him.”
The France international left Juventus last summer at the end of his contract, where, after a prolonged search for a new club, he made the surprising decision to join Marseille. In his first season back in his home country, Rabiot helped lead Les Phocéens back into the Champions League with a runners-up finish in Ligue 1.
However, despite his strong relationship with Allegri, there should not be too much speculation that Rabiot is looking to return to Italy and reunite with his former coach. As he explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport, “Joining Marseille without the Champions League was not a given. Now that we have qualified, it would be important to be able to play it in that stadium and in that environment.”
