Amorim: Manchester United is ‘where I am supposed to be’ | OneFootball

Ruben Amorim has said he believes Manchester United is where he is ‘supposed to be’ following his appointment as manager.

Amorim has been named as Erik ten Hag’s successor at Old Trafford and has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the club.

The 39-year-old arrives with a growing reputation after a decorated spell at Sporting Lisbon. He led the Portuguese side to two Primeira Liga titles, with the first breaking a 19-year title drought for the capital club.

Amorim has departed for Manchester with Sporting boasting 11 wins from 11 games in Portugal this season and will take charge of United for the first time at Ipswich Town on November 24th.

He faces the challenge of reviving Manchester United, following the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season. However, the Portuguese coach said he feels relaxed in his new surroundings and outlined his pride at taking charge. He believes Manchester United is where he is ‘supposed to be’ in his career.

Opening up on his first impression of Old Trafford during his first club interview, Amorim said: “You watch on TV and you know that it is big and it’s impressive.

“When you are here, you can feel it and I think you feel the history. I’m really, really proud to be Manchester United coach so it’s amazing. It’s a real honour to be here.”

When told the club’s home ground has a “weight to the place that does lift you up”, he added: “That’s really funny because I feel very relaxed.

“Maybe because it’s not gameday. When we have a game, I’m a different guy, but I really don’t feel the weight. I’m really excited and I’m quite relaxed, you know.

“I think I am where I am supposed to be.”
