FC Barcelona faced Inter Milan in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League last night and, unfortunately for the Blaugranes, were unable to get the better of the Italians despite scoring three goals on the night.

The match went to extra time as the two teams stood tied at 3-3 at the end of regulation time. Inter Milan scored the only goal of extra time, and thus booked their ticket to the final, eliminating the Catalans from the competition in the process.

Several Barcelona players stood out for their team in this game, with Lamine Yamal clearly being the brightest player in a Blaugrana shirt.

Simone Inzaghi impressed by one Barcelona player

However, the Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi was impressed by a different Barcelona player. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he made this clear when talking to the press after the game.

The Italian was asked about Yamal in particular, but he ended up identifying De Jong as the one Blaugrana player he would want in his team:

“There’s been a lot of talk about Yamal, but De Jong impressed me. He’s an exceptional player, capable of clearing every ball. I wouldn’t trade any of my players, but De Jong did something sensational.”

An immense game by his team

Simone also admitted that his team had to give their everything to get the better of Barcelona:

“We came up against a strong team. It took an exceptional Inter to beat them. We played two incredible matches. The boys were fantastic. I’m proud and happy to be their coach. They gave everything, both the starters and those who came on, in front of our fans.”

There is no doubt that this was a memorable match, with neither of the teams backing down irrespective of how bleak things looked for them. Unfortunately, Barcelona would not play the final, but they still have another big match awaiting them as they face Real Madrid in the upcoming league El Clasico.

Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi and Inter Milan also have quite a difficult Serie A campaign awaiting them, and they will also find out their opponents for the UCL final tonight.
