Blackburn Rovers are eyeing a move for Everton youngster Harrison Armstrong this summer following his loan spell at Derby County.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the two Championship sides are considering an approach for the player for next season.
However, it’s understood that David Moyes wants a close look at the youngster before making any decisions about a potential future loan.
Armstrong made 15 appearances in the Championship for Derby last season, after making the temporary switch to Pride Park in the January transfer window.
When asked about the prospect of signing Armstrong on loan, Football League World’s Blackburn fan pundit Simon Middlehurst claimed it’s a deal he’d like to see.
He believes added competition and some youth coming into the squad could be good for the team next season, in particular for Lewis Travis.
“Harrison Armstrong is quite an exciting talent, I know a lot of Everton fans rate him highly,” Middlehurst told Football League World.
“Travis and Sondre Tronstad have obviously been the main central midfielder players that we’ve had the last couple of years, and other players have struggled to get in ahead of them.
“Although, saying that, it would be good to have a bit more competition for them both, especially Lewis Travis. At times, he has been a little bit complacent. Club captain, and we’ve not had that other competition there.
"John Buckley has not performed really well and Joe Rankin-Costello is more of a utility player.
"Also we’ve had Adam Forshaw in there as well, a player who is obviously coming to the end of his playing career.
“So, having a young player come in just to give that bit of competition would be really good, and hopefully it’s one we can get over the line.”
Blackburn finished seventh in the Championship last season, missing out on the play-offs by just two points.
Blackburn have in the recent past proven a good place for young players to develop, with Liverpool youngsters Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton both spending time at Ewood Park.
Adam Wharton’s development into a top Premier League talent is also encouraging for Everton as a reason to send Armstrong to Rovers.
However, he already has a relationship built with Derby and John Eustace, so Blackburn may have to compete with that if they wish to win his signature ahead of the Rams.
That’s if Moyes has no plans for him in the first team squad at Everton this summer, which he may, so this could prove to be a tricky deal to get over the line, however promising it would be to complete.
