According to a recent report from MARCA, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to call up Diego Aguado once again for the match against Leganes.
The decision comes as Ferland Mendy remains unavailable due to fitness issues, prompting Ancelotti to reinforce his defensive options.
Aguado, who made his first-team debut as a centre-back alongside Asencio during the opening round of the Copa del Rey against Deportivo Minera, is expected to take on a different role this time around.
It is said that Ancelotti has been experimenting with an approach inspired by Alvaro Arbeloa’s tactical schemes, placing Aguado at left-back.
This shift has proven to be highly successful, as the young defender has delivered impressive performances in his new role.
The manager now aims to maximise the quality Aguado offers at left-back, particularly with Fran Garcia also recovering from a muscle problem.

Although he is believed to be fully fit again, Ancelotti is clearly looking to keep his options open by utilising Aguado’s growing skill set in the left-back position.
At just 18 years old, Aguado first gained attention for his solid performances as a central defender. However, his recent displays as a left-back have only increased his value to the team, highlighting his versatility and significant potential.
This adaptability has made him an increasingly important asset for Real Madrid, especially as the club deals with ongoing injury concerns.
He has not only impressed at the club level but has also been performing well for Spain’s U19 national team where he has been deployed as a left-back.
With the youngster thriving in his new role, Ancelotti appears confident in Aguado’s abilities and is ready to rely on him as an alternative left-back.
Whether as a central defender or filling in on the left side, Aguado’s growing versatility could prove invaluable for Real Madrid as the season progresses.
