Another bitter blow as Man United enter talks to sign Tottenham transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur are having a woeful season. In the Premier League, they currently sit 15th and after 22 games played, they are only eight points away from safety.

Of course, I only mention this objectively. I don't actually think Tottenham will get relegated, nor will they even be considering that reality. It feels weird to even say this but while they are close to the drop-off, they should be thankful the teams below them are unbelievably poor.

Nevertheless, Tottenham remain a huge club, with huge objectives. Like him or hate him, Ange Postecoglou is a manager with great ambition and a never-say-never attitude.

Therefore, Spurs will be hoping to rebuild for a better campaign next time out.

One player who Tottenham were previously linked with in the January transfer window is Patrick Dorgu. The versatile defender was on Tottenham's radar, until they were priced out by his club.

Lecce reportedly wanted £30m for Dorgu, which made him too expensive for Tottenham to consider. As if this wasn't hard enough to take, Spurs might be forced to watch him joining a league rival instead.

According to a report by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Man United have already conducted club-to-club talks to discuss signing Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. Furthermore, Ruben Amorim has given his green-light, making Dorgu a strong contender for the United slot.

It goes without saying that Man United are a richer club than Tottenham. However, this isn't a bad thing for Spurs, considering the same can be said about most clubs - United are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, after all.

However, what is particularly difficult for Spurs to take is how proactive Man United have been. They've noticed a spot in the squad which needs strengthening, located a versatile player who could come in and fulfil the roles and they've already begun the process.

This ball-in-motion process might seem alien to Tottenham because they don't operate with anything close to this efficiency. Of course, they don't have an unlimited supply of cash to make that not an issue but still, they shouldn't be making excuses.

For the remainder of the season, Tottenham will hope to continue their run in the Europa League and the EFL Cup, where they have performed well. It is still early in the FA Cup, but they are through to the fourth round there at least.
