Liverpool will travel to north London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The Reds are six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, having played a game less. Liverpool have suffered only one defeat so far this season and are only one win away from reaching Wembley.
The two sides met last month prior to Christmas at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Liverpool won 6-3 on that day, and they will be looking to repeat another similar performance against Spurs on Wednesday.
Ahead of the match, Arne Slot has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai is a major doubt for this clash. The 24-year-old midfielder missed the previous game against Manchester United due to illness, and he is unlikely to start against Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Slot said: “Yesterday he wasn’t in yet. If he’s in today, I would doubt if he’s available to start the game.
“But hopefully he’s in today. Yesterday he wasn’t.”
The Reds were below par against Man Utd in the 2-2 draw last week. Slot will demand a better performance from his players as they look to reach another cup final.
Liverpool have not lost a game since September, and they have the confidence to grind out results against any opponent, be it at home or away.
Szoboszlai has been outstanding this season, and he was terrific against Spurs in the previous meeting between the two sides. Losing him is a blow but Liverpool have enough depth in the side to cope with his absence.
The Reds boss also added that Joe Gomez will return to training in the next few weeks. He doesn’t expect Liverpool to be busy in the transfer window in January but also admitted that the Reds would move if the right player is available.
