Arsenal returned to winning ways on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

An own goal was the decider in the contest, but the Gunners could have easily won the game by a bigger scoreline.

Leandro Trossard failed to convert a penalty for the London giants, while Gabriel Jesus missed a clear-cut chance to score.

Riccardo Calafiori sustained a knee injury, but the issue is not serious, as per Sky Sport Italia.

‘The good news’ is that Calafiori has suffered a minor medial ligament injury on his right knee and could be out for a few weeks.

This is a boost for Arsenal. It was initially suggested that the £38 million-rated star could be out for many months.

Calafiori’s injury has come at the worst possible time

Calafiori’s injury has come at the worst possible time for the Gunners, considering William Saliba is already suspended for the Liverpool game.

Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also doubtful, and manager Mikel Arteta has a selection headache.

Timber is the closest to returning to action, and Arteta will be hoping for good news during tomorrow’s training session.

If the Dutchman is fit, he could partner Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior are options to start at left-back, but both are defensively vulnerable and have struggled with their positioning against counter-attacks.

Arteta should not hesitate to give a full debut to Myles Lewis-Skelly, who completed all of his passes against Shakhtar after replacing Calafiori.

Tomiyasu is another option, but he is unlikely to start. He has played just six minutes since the start of pre-season as he continues to struggle with a knee issue.
