Arsenal reportedly have the advantage over Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for the transfer of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
However, the Gunners may now be facing new competition for Sesko in the form of Barcelona, even if their financial situation could complicate things.
That’s according to a report from the Daily Mirror, who state that Arsenal have been exploring the possibility of trying to land Sesko earlier than expected.
The Slovenia international was apparently set to be a summer target for Mikel Arteta’s side, but their current injury crisis up front means he could be a hugely important addition now.
The Sun have also mentioned Arsenal possibly trying a £70m move for Sesko this month, but it remains to be seen if that price might end up being higher in the middle of the season.

Although Barcelona could be one to watch, it seems Sesko is currently leaning towards Arsenal as his preference over the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 21-year-old could do well to choose a move to the Emirates Stadium, where he would likely be first choice up front and where he could prove the missing piece of the jigsaw as Arteta hopes to finally get his team over the line in their bid to win silverware.
Arsenal have come so close in recent times without quite managing to edge out their rivals, but they’re surely a lot closer to trophies like the Premier League and Champions League than either United or Chelsea are.
Of course, Sesko might do well to consider the Blues, who have made a lot of progress under Enzo Maresca this season, and who have a project with a clear focus of building around talented young players.
United, meanwhile, would also surely make Sesko first choice in attack, and could be a bit of a dark horse next season once Ruben Amorim has had more time to make an impact at Old Trafford.
