Arsenal have plenty of talent in their u18 age group at the moment, as we’ve seen with all the players stepping up to the senior side for debuts.

But not everyone is as ready for senior football at 17 as Ethan Nwaneri, and Dan Casey is among those playing largely in his own age group this season.

Casey has started all six of Arsenal’s u18 Premier League games, as well as making appearances in both of the u19s’ UEFA Youth League matches against Atalanta and PSG.

And on Saturday, Casey scored his sixth goal in eight games, netting against Aston Villa.

Casey’s latest finish capped an impressive double act working with left-back Cam’ron Ismail. Ismail initially picked up the ball just ahead of his own 18-yard box, playing a pass down the line to Casey.

The Arsenal midfielder played a first-time pass back inside for Ismail, who carried the ball into the opponent’s half.

Once again, Ismail found Casey out wide, and again Casey returned the favour by finding Ismail’s underlapping run. The defender then cleverly backheeled the ball to Casey, who curled a finish into the far corner.

If ever two players deserved to register a goal and an assist, it was for that move. You can watch the highlights from the game here.

The end result on Saturday was 4-2 to Villa, as a close game slipped away from Arsenal in the dying minutes. But on an individual note, Casey’s goal made it six goals in his last five league games.

Casey started that run with a goal against Chelsea, before scoring a hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion and another goal against Southampton.

The midfielder will now turn his attentions back to the UEFA Youth League, with the u19s facing Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

Arsenal have a win and a defeat from their opening two Youth League games, so they could use some inspiration from Casey to turn that record positive.
