Aston Villa attacker Marco Asensio praised the impact of Marcus Rashford following their come-from-behind victory over Chelsea on Saturday night.
Enzo Fernández put the Blues ahead after just eight minutes at Villa Park, but Enzo Maresca’s men failed to build on their lead.
Rashford was introduced at the break by Unai Emery and went on to set up Asensio twice in the second half as they completed a brilliant comeback over the west London outfit.
“I’m so happy,” Asensio told Sky Sports after the final whistle. “The atmosphere here is incredible. I want to thank all the fans for the effort, we do it together. We have to continue.
“I’m very happy for the goal and the win. We know today was an important day. The mentality we have to have is to win every match.
“Unai trusts me and that’s so important for a forward player.”
Both Asensio and Rashford joined Villa on loan from PSG and Manchester United respectively in the winter transfer window. The England winger has now provided more assists (2) in three Premier League appearances for the Midlands outfit than he did for his parent club (1) this season.
“We know the quality of Marcus,” the 29-year-old said. “He helps us a lot. We are so happy. Thank you also to Marcus for the two assists.”
On Rashford, Unai Emery said: “Support him, help him, try to feel comfortable here, try to get confidence with us. Try to use his skill in our tactical idea. He’s in the process and of course he played a fantastic 45 minutes. Already he is going to be very important.”
The result could have a huge bearing on the top four race in the Premier League table. Villa have jumped up to seventh, one point behind Chelsea, who have played one game less.
