The Hoops travel to Birmingham on Matchday 8 to take on the English Premier League side after securing a place in the knockout rounds following a 1-0 win over BSC Young Boys last time out in the competition.
Brendan Rodgers will be without both Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi, after the former’s red card in our last outing in the tournament and the latter’s impending departure from Parkhead to Ligue 1 with Stade Rennais. Both men will be a major miss for the Irishman and his team and the club are hard at work trying to get the manager the players he needs to improve the squad in the meantime.

The timing of Kyogo’s transfer out of the club has left a lot of the fanbase and commenteriat bemused, as the club have now weakened the manager’s hand ahead of the big fixture with Unai Emery’s side. No doubt Rodgers will be wanting to make a point when he returns to England with his newest Celtic team and with the loss of our most potent attacking weapon, the game has just become even harder.

Villa may have their own problems to contend with now though, after English centre-back Tyrone Mings went off injured against Graham Potter’s team tonight. The towering defender hasn’t had his sorrows to seek on the injuries front and has missed substantial time away from the pitch as a result the past couple of years. The loss undoubtedly weakens Emery’s hand for our arrival if the player does have an issue with his knee which he was clutching in discomfort.
