An explanation for the goal celebration made use of by Atlético Madrid star Rodrigo De Paul in the club’s weekend meeting with Barcelona has today been provided.
Midfielder De Paul, of course, played a starring role for Atlético in Catalunya’s capital on Saturday.
En route to a 2-1 comeback victory for the Rojiblancos, the Argentine international dragged his side back on level terms during the 2nd-half, courtesy of a fine finish from the edge of the penalty area.
From here, De Paul unveiled a celebration which caught many an eye, the 30-year-old having made his way to one of the TV cameras in attendance, before holding up three fingers on one hand, and five on the other.
Much speculation had since spread regarding the meaning of as much.
As alluded to above, though, today, such uncertainty has been put to bed, by none other than De Paul himself.
Speaking to Movistar, in quotes relaid by Mundo Deportivo, the all-action midfielder revealed that his gesture was in fact a tribute to his children:
“My daughter always asks me to celebrate. Before, she asked me to do a little dance that she does, and now she has asked me to do the five and the three because my children are five and three years old. It was for them, I just finished talking to them and they were super happy. I dedicate it to them.”
