Inter fielded their strongest lineup. Therefore, Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella both started. Everyone expected Barcelona to start on the front foot. That is, putting pressure on Inter.

Therefore, it was impressive when Marcus Thuram broke the deadlock after just 30 or so seconds. The backheel finish was stunning. As was the assist by Denzel Dumfries.

The provider turned finisher when Denzel Dumfries scored a wondergoal in the 21st minute.

Federico Dimarco’s corner was headed by Francesco Acerbi towards goal, which the Dutchman buried with a stunning roundhouse volley kick.

Unfortunately, three minutes later Lamine Yamal produced a moment of magic after Marcus Thuram, Federico Dimarco and Henrikh Mkhitaryan lapsed in their defensive duties without possession. The finish itself was sublime.

However, Barcelona’s 2-2 equalizer was very avoidable. Francesco Acerbi and Yann Bisseck were ball-watching allowing Ferran Torres to finish off a Raphina header.

In fact, despite these two costly mistakes, Inter solid defensively throughout the first half. And looked dangerous on the counter.

Subsequently, Inter continued to defend well in the second half. However, Inter defended far too deep from the offset.

This followed after Inter created a couple of chances but couldn’t retake the lead. Federico Dimarco squandered a fantastic chance.

Barcelona continued to create chances and dominate possession.

However, in the 63rd minute MOTM Denzel Dumfries latched on to a Hakan Calhanoglu corner, making no mistake, 3-2 to Inter.

Unfortunately, two minutes later Barcelona equalized after Raphinha scored a screamer which was noted as a Yann Sommer owngoal.

This as the Raphina screamer went in off the cross bar and the Swiss goalkeeper’s back for the equalizer.

In conclusion, Inter probably could and should have won. This as a Henrikh Mhitaryan goal was adjudged to have been offside by the smallest of margins by VAR.
