kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen are in talks with an unnamed attacker over a move to the Bundesliga in this transfer window.
Leverkusen are already quite far ahead when it comes to an agreement with the player over a move to the BayArena but the transfer at the moment hinges on reaching an agreement with the player’s club. The mystery player is said to bring more speed into the Leverkusen attack after the injuries to Martin Terrier and Amine Adli, although the latter is close to resuming training.
The mystery player is also said to be stylistically similar to Dodi Lukebakio, who was one of the candidates. While Rayan Cherki is no longer an option in this window as Leverkusen see it as risky to try and integrate the player into the squad mid-season due to his attitude, reports Bild.
Die Werkself have set them a budget of €20m to spend on a defender and an attacker. In defence, they will look to try and sign another centre-back who can play on mainly the right-hand side of their back three. This would then allow, Piero Hincapié to act as the backup for Alejandro Grimaldo as Edmond Tapsoba can move to his preferred left-hand side of the back three.
Leverkusen tried to address this earlier in the window with a bid for Abdukodir Khusanov but Manchester City doubled what the Bundesliga side offered. Rennes’ Mikayil Faye is said to be one of the candidates for the position.
