The Athletic reports that Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Erik Ten Hag as their new head coach.
Leverkusen are working on finalising the deal for the former Manchester United manager, who has been without a job since leaving the Premier League side earlier this season. Sky Germany reports that the Dutchman will sign a contract at the BayArena until 2027.
Cesc Fabregas was another candidate for the job but opted to stay at his current club, Como.
Ten Hag will inherit a tough task at Leverkusen when he joins. Not only will he have to replace Xabi Alonso, who led the club to a Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double, but he will also have to manage a big squad overhaul with Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Tah some of the names set to leave the club this summer, and other players also linked with moves away.
If the Dutchman can navigate this situation well, then he can begin his path to redemption following his spell at Manchester United.
