Some interesting records broken by Newcastle United, as flagged up by BBC Sport.

If you think it felt like Newcastle United had a lot of possession, you’d be right!

BBC Sport reporting that Newcastle’s  78.0% share of possession in this game, is the highest by any team in a Premier League match this season.

Also, they state that it is Newcastle United’s highest in the competition on record (since 2003/04).

Alexander Isak scored the opening goal on Saturday and it was his 22nd Premier League goal of the season, this is the most of any Newcastle United player in a top tier campaign since Alan Shearer also scored 22 goals in the 2003/04 season.

That 2003/04 season, Alan Shearer scored 28 Newcastle United goals in total, 22 in the Premier League and six in the UEFA Cup.

This 2024/25 season, Alexander Isak has so far scored 26, 22 in the Premier League, three in the League Cup, one in the FA Cup. Isak has also scored five times for Sweden this season.

Maybe the most interesting fact/record that BBC Sport have flagged up, is this one – ‘Newcastle United have dropped just seven points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, fewer than any other side.’

So once Newcastle United get ahead, they stay ahead, in almost every case…
